BBC Two Visceral ident reverts to original state

Posted on 27th February 2021 by The Clean Feed Team Last updated on 26th March 2021 Filed under PresWatch

At the start of the year, BBC Two added ‘Channel of the Year’ text on many of its idents. It looks as though the new versions were created using the original masters. And that’s a problem in some cases.

Shortly after their initial on-air debut, two of the idents were withdrawn from use temporarily: Thought-Provoking 1 and Visceral. Adjusted versions were introduced later.

The changes are thought to have been requested due to concerns that they may in some cases trigger negative neurological reactions.

We’re not aware of a ‘Channel of the Year’ version of Though-Provoking 1 having been aired yet. However, Visceral has been transmitted in its original form since the start of the year.

Visceral was first aired in October 2018. It was withdrawn from use soon after. A new version – with lower saturation levels – was introduced in November 2018.

You can see the difference in the two versions on this page, courtesy of The Ident Gallery.

The version that’s been airing since January this year has the saturation levels back to their original state. Here’s an example from the early hours of this morning:
