BBC One’s first electronically generated ident – launched on Monday 18th February 1985 – made a rare reappearance on the channel this evening.
Also known as COW (Computer-Originated World) or OWL (Open World Logo), the iconic channel symbol was brought back to mark the 40th anniversary of EastEnders.
BBC Wales revived its original COW kit and broadcast the output live for the special EastEnders junction at 7.30pm.
Network BBC One and BBC One Scotland used archive footage of their respective COW symbols. BBC One Northern Ireland’s COW was an enhanced version from an archive recording.
