BBC News Reith launch - around the regions

On this page, an at-a-glance guide to the rollout of the BBC Reith font in the BBC News English regions and nations. The initial signs of the new Reith package were aired in most regions during the 1pm regional headline insert.

Northern Ireland

Rollout of BBC Reith graphics delayed.

Scotland

BBC Scotland opted to update its existing titles with BBC Reith. Unfortunately, the graphics on the screens behind the presenter were still the old Gill Sans versions. The programme endboard also featured the Gill Sans text. And the late bulletin used the Gill Sans titles for a couple of days.

Wales

BBC Wales has produced an updated version of its titles, with Gill Sans replaced with BBC Reith. There are new visual sequences in the titles too. But dreadful execution on the endboard, with the logo badge not lining up with the programme title – and a very heavy weight on ‘WALES’.

Granted, BBC London was also guilty of a similar misalignment in its titles until today – but that doesn’t make it right. It looks rather silly.
