BBC NI opt blunder leaves viewers in the dark

Posted on 13th February 2019 by The Clean Feed Team Last updated on 26th March 2021 Filed under Bloopers

Shortly after the regional headline opt at the start of tonight’s BBC News at Six, viewers of BBC One Northern Ireland saw their screens momentarily fade to black, as Sophie Raworth read the introduction for the lead story.

It appears as though BBC Northern Ireland omitted to go out-of-circuit after the regional headlines (this would normally happen during the programme title sequence or immediately after it) and adjustments to the vision output on the local desk – that weren’t intended to be broadcast – went out live on air.

A short audio blip that occurred immediately after vision was restored indicates the point at which the local desk was taken out-of-circuit.
