A sound fault affected BBC One on some platforms around 10pm, impacting the opening minutes of the BBC News at Ten.
The problem began at the start of the junction leading into the BBC News at Ten.
Reeta Chakrabarti apologised for the fault at the end of the BBC News at Ten.
Reports online suggest the unusual noise was the audio description control track, which had somehow become audible on some platforms, such as BBC iPlayer.
