A studio-based portion of tonight’s BBC coverage of the FA Cup match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool was interrupted by loud pornographic noises.

Presenter Gary Linekar made light of the embarrassing incident before quickly passing to his colleague Alan Shearer in the commentary gantry.

Minutes into the first half, Gary tweeted that the noise came from a hidden mobile phone which had been “taped to the back of the set”.

YouTube prankster Daniel Jarvis claimed he was behind the stunt. He posted footage online that appeared to show him outside the BBC studio at the Molineux stadium whilst technicians were setting up equipment.

The BBC posted an apology online during the match:

“We apologise to any viewers offended during the live coverage of the football this evening. We are investigating how this happened.”
