Monday 21st November

7pm ITV Sport pays tribute to technical director Roger Pearce

ITV Sport presenter Mark Pougatch took a few moments during this evening’s World Cup programme to pay tribute to technical director Roger Pearce who died over the weekend.

“Roger and his team are the brilliant people who bring you the pictures into your homes and make it all happen. Roger was a hugely respected figure in the TV sport broadcasting industry.

“For ITV, he’s been instrumental in the logistical planning and delivery of Rugby World Cups, as well as the football World Cups and the Euros.

“He always had a smile on his face and left a smile on your face. He was utterly dedicated, professional, charming and hugely popular. He’ll be missed by so many people inside the industry and at home.”

Robert had worked at ITV for 43 years. This was his eighth football World Cup. He was planning to retire after the tournament.

It was all going so well, until the opening titles failed to appear.

However, apart from presenter and guests awkwardly staring down the camera for just over ten seconds, the situation was nicely recovered.
