Don’t have guests at the desk when the weather is next

There was an awkward moment at the start of the weather segment on the BBC News at One today, when a studio guest got in the way of the camera shot.

Economics correspondent Andy Verity was seated at the Studio E desk for a brief discussion with presenter Jane Hill on the programme’s final story.

Discussion complete and it was time to pop across to the catwalk for the weather, with Tomasz Schafernaker.

As usual, when we transition to the weather segment, we get a wide shot of the studio. But something’s not quite right.

The floor manager is seen waving frantically to catch Andy Verity’s attention. Presumably she’s been informed by the director that Andy is obstructing the camera shot of the weather presenter.

When we then cut to the weather camera, the back of Andy’s head is in shot. After a few seconds, he moves out of the way.

Weather presenter Tomasz Schafernaker was momentarily distracted by the attempts to get Andy out of the desk area.

At the end of the weather forecast, presenter Jane Hill commented: “Thanks Tomasz. A few people wanted in on your weather forecast.”
