1.45pm New BBC service icons added to website navigation bar
We saw a preview of them a few days back on a test version of the BBC website but at lunchtime today, the navigation bar on the live BBC website was updated with the new BBC service icons.
The icons were developed as part of the BBC’s Chameleon branding project.
2pm Isabel and Helen’s ITV Creates idents get another airing
As has become the weekly custom now, the ITV Lunchtime News junction saw a change of ITV Creates idents. This week, Isabel and Helen’s idents get another airing. They were first seen on air in March 2019.
Working as a duo since 2013, Isabel and Helen create installations that combine a stripped-back aesthetic with an often-humorous approach. Taking simple sensory pleasures as a starting point, they conceive both quiet interventions and large-scale constructions that transform familiar objects into curious new spaces.
11pm Joint East/West Midlands regional news tonight on BBC One
At exactly 7pm this evening, BBC News Midlands posted the following statement on Twitter:
“Unfortunately, we are unable to broadcast our late bulletin from Birmingham tonight, so we will be sharing output from Nottingham across the Midlands. We’ll be back with our breakfast bulletins from 6.25am on Tuesday morning.”
The joint bulletin transmitted at 10.30pm on BBC One was branded East Midlands Today.

2.15pm BBC Bitesize Daily branding anomaly on the CBBC channel
The new BBC blocks have been introduced on some of the stings for BBC Bitesize Daily on the CBBC channel.
Curiously, even though the BBC Chameleon project intends to introduce purple branding for BBC Bitesize, the newly updated BBC Bitesize Daily branding on the CBBC channel still features the familiar orange colour scheme.
As well as the update to the BBC blocks, the ‘Daily’ text has also been altered, with the double-storey ‘a’ replaced with a single-story ‘a’.
Thanks to @yayan550 for drawing our attention to this.
7.30pm BBC London airs special titles for opening of Elizabeth Line
BBC London aired a special set of opening titles today as part of their coverage of the opening of the Elizabeth Line.
9.30pm Avoidable inconsistencies in online BBC News branding
The vast majority of BBC News social media accounts had profile images updated recently to reflect the latest version of the BBC News logo, incorporating the new BBC blocks logo.
However, as ever, there are a handful exceptions. Most notably the @BBCBreaking account on Twitter – with over 50m followers. Here, the large profile image has been updated with the new branding but the small, circular image has not.
More generally, we still have Gill Sans BBC News logos popping up on social media posts every day.
The ‘Breaking’ graphic – used as the feature image for breaking news stories – still features the Gill Sans version of the logo. And the placeholder graphic used in lieu of a proper, article-related feature image is still a large Gill Sans BBC News logo.
Whilst we appreciate there’s a lot of work going on behind-the-scenes to switch across to new content management systems, surely it wouldn’t be a big task to replace these legacy graphics?
UPDATE: on 26th May, one of our readers alerted us to the fact that article feature images now feature the latest BBC News logo, incorporating the new BBC masterbrand/logo.

11am Computer glitch takes BBC Weather bulletin off air
We’re not quite sure what happened here. Louise Lear was in the middle of telling us about the weather for the the middle of next week when she was abruptly taken off the air.
It looked as though the weather software reset itself – or that someone attempted to edit the forecast playlist that Louise was using on air.
