BBC One joins BBC News Channel in perfect time for their on-the-half-hour headlines

This is another in our occasional series, where we look at particularly well executed BBC One/BBC News Channel late-night handovers.

Regular readers will know that BBC One handovers to the News Channel are generally not well executed. More often than not, BBC One crashes into the NC. All very untidy.

But we felt last night’s handover on network BBC One was particularly worthy of a mention. Meeting the NC on-the-hour, whilst very commendable – and we wish it would happen a lot more often – is working to an event that occurs at a fixed time.

What about trying to hand across to the NC for the headline recap that occurs somewhere around half past the hour? Much more of a moving target – and it’d require some planning, in conjunction with the BBC News director.

Well, network BBC One managed just that last night. What makes it even more impressive is that BBC One joined in time to catch the BBC News sting.
