BBC Three’s return to linear TV on 1st February also saw the introduction of new branding. The channel’s on-screen presentation package included four idents produced by BBC Creative in collaboration with Superunion, Ghost and BlinkInk director Robert Strange. And now, a few weeks later, we have a fifth ident.

The latest addition first appeared in the early hours of the morning today.

The characters featured in the idents – named Captain, Spider and Pointer – are animated human hands, each with distinct personalities. Superunion executive creative director Stuart Radford says that they are “unapologetically unique personalities”.

Captain is the swaggering leader, “never short of confidence”. Meanwhile, Spider is “friendly, cute and quick on their feet” while Pointer is the “strong, silent type”, according to the BBC.
