BBC Films becomes BBC Film – but the dodgy BBC logo remains

Earlier this week following the release of a BBC Two trail featuring short snippets of various new films, we asked a question:

OPINION: a new BBC Two trail has appeared, promoting a number of new films. Is 'BBC Films' now 'BBC Film'? The usual sloppy left alignment of text that has been a feature of BBC Two endboards for the last couple of years. pic.twitter.com/pwFwT3zlna

And the answer to that question is, yes. BBC Films does indeed seem to have been rebranded BBC Film.

Social media accounts and the BBC website have been updated with the chunky new BBC Film logo.

However, if the image on social media is the official version of the new BBC Film logo, then we regret to report that, just like its predecessor, the new BBC Film logo includes a mocked-up BBC blocks logo – where the letters are a lighter weight than the official BBC logo, and the positioning of the letters is off (notice how the ‘C’ is vertically higher than the other letters).

Again, we really have to question the levels of governance around the masterbrand within the BBC. How does a high-profile brand such as BBC Film get to the stage of publicly publishing a new logo, which uses an unofficial (and incorrect) version of the BBC blocks logo?
