UK TV regulator Ofcom has signed off on the renewal of the BBC-owned Multiplex B on the digital terrestrial TV platform Freeview.
A notice of renewal for Multiplex B appeared on the Ofcom website yesterday, stating the licence will now continue until 31st December 2030. The licence was due to expire on 15th November 2026.

Multiplex B provides HD versions of the main PSB channels.
The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport stance regarding Freeview is that the platform will remain available until at least 2034.
The BBC, ITV and Channel 4 have been opposed to extending a possible switch-off of the Freeview network beyond 2034, citing a change in viewing habits in favour of streaming, and the cost of maintaining ageing terrestrial TV infrastructure.
But the renewal of Multiplex B to a date well ahead of 2034 is a curious move.
In 2024, the DCMS launched a forum to look at the future of TV in the UK, with the aim of informing and driving forward policy. It is expected to report on its findings early next year.
