As reported on Clean Feed yesterday, the UK version of the BBC News channel will replace BBC Breakfast with live news programming from its international equivalent from tomorrow morning – this has now been confirmed in an e-mail to staff.
Programme listings were updated yesterday afternoon to reflect the change.
In the communication to staff, senior/deputy editor, BBC News channel, Joe O’Brien, said the change will “offer choice to our UK audiences; we are not recreating or competing with BBC Breakfast“.
There will be some simple stylistic tweaks to the current international early morning programming. O’Brien said the look and feel of the output will continue to evolve.
The three hours of live programming will “harness the global might of the BBC’s news gathering operation, to tell and break stories live”.
The range of stories will “reflect a broad agenda that appeals to all: health, consumer, climate”.
Sally Bundock will present the 5am and 6am programmes, with Martine Croxall anchoring from 7am.
‘Coming Up’ sequences will be used at .15, .26, .45 and .56 “to bring energy, momentum and promote good content”.
The business presenter will provide headlines at 7am and 8am.
Global front pages (newspapers and websites) “to be used as a production device around big stories”, with a more in-depth look at 6.51am.
There will be pushbacks, promoting newsletters, BBC Local and BBC Radio 5 Live, for the UK audience.
Signed slots will continue to be a feature of the UK channel.
