ITV 1 is now airing a special 70th anniversary ident and three associated break bumpers.
The break bumpers debuted within Good Morning Britain. One features a 1970s ITV logo that wasn’t actually routinely used on air, another uses a version of the logo used during the 1980s and the third bumper uses the 1998 – 2006 logo, with a subtle reference to the 1989 design.
The special ident debuted into the ITV Lunchtime News. Somewhat unexpectedly, it features the 1970s/1980s Thames TV ident fanfare. The Thames Skyline ident is also represented visually.
Other idents represented visually: Anglia TV (1970 – 1988); Meridian (1993 – 1996); Channel TV (1960s); ATV (1960s); Yorkshire TV (1987 – 1989); Scottish TV (1985 – 1989).
Programme-related visuals include archive footage of current and past titles, including: GMTV; Loose Women; Downton Abbey; The Sweeney; Poirot; ITV News at Ten; Coronation Street; This Morning; Love Island; Lorraine; The Bill.
The headline presenter featured in the short sequence is Bruce Forsyth.
Update: the final airing of ITV 70-themed idents was in the 6am junction on 1st October 2025 – and that junction featured the Central-themed ident. The Thames-themed ident aired for the final time in the 5.05am junction.
