5pm BBC Scotland channel announces cuts to news programming

The BBC Scotland channel is to scrap three programmes:

  • The Nine.
  • The Edit.
  • Seven Days.

The hour-long The Nine will be replaced by a 30-minute programme at 7pm.

Last night’s The Nine attracted only 6k viewers.

BBC Scotland said there would be no job losses as a result of the cuts.

Whilst some programming would be cut, there would be investment in other areas:

  • the Debate Night programme will be extended from 24 to 30 editions this year.
  • Reporting Scotland will have a number of hour-long specials.
  • enhanced online news services.
