The presenter’s mic failed at the start of an overnight BBC News programme, causing the opening headline sequence to be abandoned.

Presenter Rich Preston welcomed viewers before moving on to the opening headline. But due to an issue with his microphone, viewers couldn’t hear him.

Visuals for the top story – the earthquake in Turkey and Syria – came to halt after 15 seconds and remained on screen for a further 30 seconds or so, accompanied by the headline bed.

We were then diverted to a package for the top story.

The presenter later apologised for the technical glitches at the start of the programme.
