BBC Three is returning to your TV

From tomorrow, viewers will be able to tune in to BBC Three on linear TV. Although BBC Three launched as a linear TV channel in February 2003, it became online-only in February 2016.

Promotional material for BBC Three has been airing as part of test transmissions since 10th January, on hidden channels on the DTT and DSAT platforms.

And since 22nd January, other BBC TV channels have been running a one-minute trail for BBC Three.

Below we’ve listed the channel numbers where you’ll find BBC Three on the major platforms.

Digital Terrestrial Television (via an aerial)

From midday on 26th January (note: a retune will be required):

  • 23 (SD)
  • 109 (HD): England, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands and Isle of Man

The HD service is not available in Scotland and Wales.

Sky

From 27th January:

  • 117 (HD): England (excluding London), Northern Ireland, Wales, Channel Islands, Isle of Man
  • 173 (HD): London
  • 141 (HD): Scotland
  • 845 (SD)

On Sky Glass, BBC Three will appear on channel 118 (119 in Wales).

Freesat

From 27th January (a manual retune may be required for older receivers):

  • 107 (HD)
  • 179 (SD)

Virgin Cable

From 1st February:

  • 107 (HD): England, Northern Ireland
  • 157 (HD): Scotland, Wales

Q1 2023: BBC Chameleon branding introduced on air for BBC Weather, CBBC and CBeebies.

April 2023: BBC News Channel and BBC World News merge.

November/December 2023: World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC-23).

Q1 2024: SD versions of BBC channels close on satellite.

2024: BBC Four and CBBC go online-only.

2024: BBC Radio 4 Extra goes online-only.
