RTÉ One Presentation changes for the new year

RTÉ One has made some adjustments to the scheduling of its standard idents since they returned on 2nd January – and only a limited selection of idents appear to be in use.

Keeping in mind that the autumn/winter set are also usually still in use at this point, here’s what the current usage looks like:

STANDARD SETAUTUMN/WINTER SET

Explore Not in useWrap Up Warm Not in use

And unlike previous years, we have no special idents for Dancing with the Stars this year, which launches on 9th January.

Many of RTÉ One’s standard idents have been in use since the autumn of 2006 and certain programmes, such as the news and current affairs show Prime Time, are usually linked into using the same ident.

The RTÉ News: Six-One for example is almost always preceded by the Search ident. But that tradition has now been ditched it would seem:

The main overnight ident – which for many years was Lights, then Create and last year updated to Water – has now been updated to Stretch. This ident features a pre-recorded, generic announcement: “This is RTÉ One”.

And interestingly, this pre-recorded Stretch ident is sometimes being used late-mornings and early afternoons, where we would normally have live announcements. This has been going on intermittently since late last year. Here’s an example from earlier today:

The daytime weather presenter also often covers programme links on the channel. But sometimes, they don’t make it across from the weather studio in time, as seemed to be the case at 1.15pm today, where the channel director obviously expected a live announcement into Home and Away. But instead, we got a clean ident playout:

For many years, programmes that included product placement were introduced using a version of the Search ident, with a text overlay about product placement. Search has now been replaced by Stretch in this scenario:

Overnight signed programmes continue to use the 2006 – 2013 version of the Light ident, with in-vision signer. This ident features the old RTÉ One logo.
