Sky confirms return of Disney Jr HD

After weeks of speculation online, Sky has now confirmed the return of children’s channel Disney Jr to its satellite platform.

In late September/early October some viewers spotted a test channel on satellite, broadcasting programming previously associated with Disney linear channels.

The channel will formally go live on Thursday 13th November on satellite, Sky Glass and Sky Stream. Its channel number is yet to be confirmed.

Disney Jr, along with Disney Channel and Disney XD, left UK linear TV in October 2020, with content moving exclusively to the newly launched DIsney+ streaming service.

Earlier this week, Narrative Entertainment (UK) confirmed to C21 that its linear TV kids’ channels Pop and Tiny Pop will close in December.

The Pop and Tiny Pop FAST channels will continue.

Tiny Pop was removed from linear TV in March 2024, before being reinstated again in late summer.

Speaking about the plan to drop the kids’ channels from linear, Narrative managing director Paul Dunthorne said: “…free-to-air channels for this audience are simply not commercially viable without public service broadcaster-style funding.”
