Friday 1st August will see the airing of the final edition of Sportsday on the BBC News channel.

The cancellation of the long-running programme is part of an overall reduction in the amount of sports coverage on the channel, which comes into effect on Saturday 2nd August.

The move away from the regular bulletin format will see more resourcing put into live streaming and iPlayer programmes.

Here’s an outline of the new sports news schedule:

Saturday and Sunday

  • Breakfast bulletins at 6.30am, 7.30am, 8.30am and 9.30am.
  • 4-minute bulletin within the 1pm news programme.
  • 12 – 15-minute bulletin at 6.30pm and 7.30pm.
  • Prerecorded bulletin for overnights (11.45pm – not Saturdays).

Weekdays

  • Breakfast bulletins at 6.30am, 7.30am and 8.30am.
  • Lunchtime opt at 1.30pm.
  • Prerecorded bulletin for overnights (11.45pm – not Fridays).

Prerecorded headline inserts for the 6pm and 10pm news programmes are being discontinued.

Sports presenters and journalists will still be available throughout the daytime/evening, to cover breaking sports stories/stories of interest. The sport gallery will be staffed.
