Channel 5 SD/HD and +1 switch back to standard playout facility

Posted on 20th October 2021 by The Clean Feed Team
Last updated on 30th December 2022 Filed under News

The playout operation for Channel 5’s TV services may have made its first move towards resuming normal operations following the incident at Red Bee Media’s Broadcast Centre on 25th September.

The portfolio of Channel 5-owned TV services has been operating out of a disaster recovery (DR) playout facility since the fire suppression event at the Red Bee Media building.

An on-screen DR indicator (a black and white square in the top right corner of the screen – example shown below) has been present during programmes whilst playout has been based in the back-up playout facility.

The DR indicator is no longer present today on Channel 5 SD/HD and +1. The assumption would be that these services have moved back to the standard playout facility in the Red Bee Media building.

One of the other side effects from the Red Bee incident in September has been the disruption to access services on the Channel 5 portfolio of TV channels. Since last week, Channel 5 has been displaying an apology caption prior to the affected programmes (above).

The DR indicator remains present on 5Star, 5Select, 5USA and Paramount.
