The UK version of the BBC News channel is to pilot taking the global version of the channel during the 6am – 9am slot instead of BBC Breakfast.

The change will take effect from next Wednesday.

In an e-mail to staff, Paul Royall, executive news editor, BBC News channel, said the majority of viewers watched BBC Breakfast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, and that providing the global feed offers more choice to UK viewers.

In circumstances where a major UK story breaks during the breakfast slot, the UK BBC News channel would take BBC Breakfast’s coverage.
