7.45pm New look BBC North West Tonight launches
BBC North West Tonight launched a new set at 6.30pm.
The Salford-based operation is the latest of the English regional news programmes to have its set updated. The design is a small-scale strain of the set used in Studio B at Broadcasting House in London.
Here’s how the programme looked on air:

5.45pm Brief appearance of Sky News colour bars on BBC News
Viewers tuning in to watch the PM Rishi Sunak announce the date of the general election live on BBC News may have caught a brief glimpse of Sky News colour bars.
X user @OpenBroadcastSy (Open Broadcast Systems) remarked: “Our C-100 encoder makes a cameo appearance on BBC News having delivered another major historical event to millions.”

7.45pm Odd close to this evening’s BBC Look East
Not sure this choice of closing wide shot will catch on BBC Look East.
This clip also serves as a reminder to presenters to be careful with your choice of smalltalk at the end of the programme.
You just never know…
9pm Sky reporter ejected from Tory campaign event
Security personnel at a Tory election campaign launch event at the ExCeL exhibition centre in London removed a Sky correspondent from the building during a live broadcast on Sky News.
Sky political correspondent Darren McCaffrey was denied access to the event because there were broadcast pool arrangements in place and neither he nor his crew had the necessary security clearance to attend.

4.20pm Election campaign arrangements for BBC News channel
BBC management has provided provisional information to staff of arrangements for election campaign coverage on the BBC News channel:
- There will be a dedicated UK feed, based in Studio E, from 9am until 6pm (or 8pm if required). As well as providing extensive coverage of the election campaign, other UK and global stories will be reported too.
- On the world feed of the channel – which will be based in Studio C – coverage of the election campaign will be provided, but tailored for a global audience.
